Back in the Philippines, nursing home services is uncommon, because as a part of our culture, we brought up to care for our family member who can’t take care of themselves, although there are few facilities but only few can afford it plus they are not sure if they can get the care they need.

Western culture is different .Old people usually hire someone to take care of them, the family will pay for it, and most of the people I knew, eventhough they are not in a situation that need it yet, they thought that to find a nursing now is not a bad idea, especially with so many other facilities out there that offer an elderly care but you never know if they are all professionally qualified to do such services. It’s really hard to decide which place offers the best, but you have to be very careful since abuse doesn’t only happen to young people.  My mother-in-law died in a nursing home, she wasn’t that old yet that time but she was diabetic  and need a round-the-clock care and none of her children (my husband and his two brothers) can afford to take care of her because they live too far from her, so they choose to put her in a nursing home, little did they know that the place let her do whatever she want, like drinking for example eventhough they are fully aware that she can’t drink anymore. So anyway, if you are looking for a nursing home, make sure you know everything about their rules and facilities.
